Theory of Turbulence and Turbulent Transport in the Atmosphere

A.P. TRUNEV, Sochi Research Centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Russia

The constructive theory of turbulence is based on the simple idea that there are some physical principles which govern hydrodynamic turbulence. In this book, for the first time, the author derives a closed equation system for mean turbulent flow, achieved through a special type of transformation of the Navier-Stokes equation. This is then used to estimate mean velocity, temperature and impurity concentration profiles in turbulent stratified flows, in boundary layers over rough surfaces with 2-D and 3-D roughness elements and in accelerated flows, as well as turbulent transport of air pollutants in the atmosphere.
